Sir Chris Hoy MBE is one of Great Britain’s most successful Olympians, with six gold medals and one silver across Athens 2004, Beijing 2008 and London 2012, plus eleven world titles. Born in Edinburgh, he started in BMX aged seven, was BBC Sports Personality of the Year in 2008 and was knighted in 2009.

He retired from competition in 2013 and built a second career as a BBC cycling broadcaster, children’s author and founder of HOY Bikes, and completed the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2016.

In February 2024 he revealed he was being treated for cancer; that October he confirmed it was stage 4 prostate cancer and terminal. His memoir All That Matters followed. He has since campaigned on prostate cancer awareness, prompting an NHS England review of screening and encouraging hundreds of thousands of men to use Prostate Cancer UK’s online risk checker. In September 2025 he founded Tour de 4, a Glasgow ride for people affected by cancer that raised £3.14 million in its first year and returned on 6 September 2026.

Awarded the Freedom of the City of London in June 2025, he speaks on the mental demands of elite sport, his work with psychologist Steve Peters, and finding perspective and purpose through uncertainty.
